Pros

Education benefits are great, opportunities to travel. You will work with some very intelligent and capable people (there are also some of the opposite). Depending on what AFSC (job) you get you will get valuable training. Particularly good jobs to get are: pilot, contracting, acquisitions, and certain engineering positions.

Cons

"Leadership" punishes everyone when one airman screws up. You give up lots of personal freedom. You will likely go to awful places like Afghanistan. It can be difficult to spend time with family due to distance/ getting approved leave. Pay is considerably lower than civilian contractors that do the same work (but are almost always prior-military).

Pros

Teaches you a trade while paying you. Social appreciation. Purpose. If you have no idea what you want to do with your life especially as far as a career goes, run to a recruiter. Regardless of whereever you come from a military career is your stepping stone into middle class and up living and career opportunity.

Cons

Every extra dollar you attempt to make beyond your rank will require more work than you will be paid to do. The real payoff monetarily you get from competing in the military will come in to play during your post life. Confidence, courage, accountability, etc are not standard attributes in people at all.
