Pros

Wages for AF officers are currently higher then for counterparts on the outside especially if counting in pension benefits if you're doing your 20 years. There are some really amazing professional development, leadership, academic and travel opportunities within the AF if you have the desire to look and compete for them. There is lots of time given off if you're able to take it. Coworkers range from competent to utterly incompetent but most are a pleasure to work with.

Cons

While the paycheck is always stable, your schedule isn't. AF Intel Officers are deploying like crazy right now. Between TDYs and deployments life can be very hard for a family. Dealing with a large bureocracy can often be maddening and the yearning for less regulation is hard to stifle sometimes. Moving every couple of years takes its toll but switching up what you're doing every couple of years also has its benefits.

Pros

Teaches you a trade while paying you. Social appreciation. Purpose. If you have no idea what you want to do with your life especially as far as a career goes, run to a recruiter. Regardless of whereever you come from a military career is your stepping stone into middle class and up living and career opportunity.

Cons

Every extra dollar you attempt to make beyond your rank will require more work than you will be paid to do. The real payoff monetarily you get from competing in the military will come in to play during your post life. Confidence, courage, accountability, etc are not standard attributes in people at all.
