Pros

The promotion opportunity to Lieutenant Colonel is excellent. The ethics and integrity of the people you work with is top-notch. The security clearance opens doors to jobs with defense contractors when you get out of the Air Force.

Cons

Even though we're nine years into the current conflict, the Air Force still can't get it's personnel strength numbers right. You can expect to be deployed away from home for at least six months of every year. This doesn't include any spin-up training time that may or may not be at your home station. It's extremely hard on families (especially kids and spouses with questionable fidelity skills). So, if you want to be an Air Force intelligence officer, don't buy a house, don't buy a dog, don't sign a service contract (e.g. cell phone), don't get a serious boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse, don't have kids, don't start an advanced degree, and don't buy a nice car/truck you'll never get to drive. Instead, rent those things (except the boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse/kids) for the four months you are at home.

Pros

Teaches you a trade while paying you. Social appreciation. Purpose. If you have no idea what you want to do with your life especially as far as a career goes, run to a recruiter. Regardless of whereever you come from a military career is your stepping stone into middle class and up living and career opportunity.

Cons

Every extra dollar you attempt to make beyond your rank will require more work than you will be paid to do. The real payoff monetarily you get from competing in the military will come in to play during your post life. Confidence, courage, accountability, etc are not standard attributes in people at all.
