Meaningful Mission, Misguided Leaders

Pros

Epic staff are smart, creative, and organized. The campus is gorgeous & the food is incredible. Teams that are insulated from management by supportive team leads are wonderful to work with. The work is often meaningful & challenging in all the right ways.

Cons

Management spends a lot of time talking about transparency & feedback, but has little interest in genuinely listening to staff concerns. For a healthcare-adjacent company, Epic's response to COVID-19 has been shockingly slow & indecisive. The CEO's personal opposition to remote work overshadows legitimate concerns for staff safety. Treatment of POC employees is similarly disappointing - there is little interest in increasing diversity let alone prioritizing it. If you manage to find the right app & team lead and keep your head down, Epic can be a great place to work. Ultimately, though, leadership is determined to reinforce caustic internal power structures that emphasize profits over people, whether that's staff or the patients and providers who use Epic software.

Pros

You get to work with smart people. Interesting problems to solve. You make a difference for people using Epic's medical software. Pay is good for the area.

Cons

Fast paced, high stress environment. Nowhere near enough vacation time. CEO is quirky and stubborn, and likes to do things exactly her way which is not necessarily the best way. Right now trying to get everyone back on campus because "collaboration", which makes zero sense as everyone will be doing remote meetings anyway. Company does not care for their employees.
