Pros

Amazing benefits, awesome coworkers, and overall a good company that tries to do the right thing. I took this job without really knowing what I wanted to do as a career and not only gained valuable marketable skills in healthcare IT/productivity/management that I will continue to use in future jobs. Post-epic career opportunities are amazing. The campus is nothing short of amazing. Madison, if you can brave the winters, is wonderful with lots of things to do and overall a great community. All in all, I really enjoyed working at Epic and highly recommend this job to anyone looking to start their career.

Cons

Epic's relatively flat hierarchy leaves little room for advancement in-house, which in turn leads to relatively high turnover of talented employees. Their management structure isn't great, frequently people get promoted to management positions because they are good at their tech job, not necessarily at managing people. There are a number of a really great managers, but also a good amount of pretty terrible ones. The manager/team lead that you work under will greatly influence your time at Epic, so if you get a bad one, it can be pretty rough. One other note is that there is A LOT of work and usually not enough people to do it. This is not so much a hit against Epic as it is the nature of the industry. If you work there, you should expect to work a good amount (at least 45-50 hours week). Epic does err on the side of the customer, so occasionally Epic employees get raked across the coals if a hospital wants something done immediately and Epic says "yes". However, I did not find this to happen too often.

Pros

Collaborative, brilliant coworkers. Incredible ability to standardize procedures and processes within Epic. Great atmosphere, lots of benefits. Great healthcare plan, subsidized food.

Cons

Unrealistic delivery expectations that lead to incredibly high hours Divide between client and Epic company creates barrier to holding each other accountable or giving honest feedback to client Challenging to learn industry and go out there right away with no background.

Pros

personal office, or at most one office-mate; environment is pretty; well paid job; paid training term.

Cons

Too cold in Verona in winter. Team leader decides your life. Once you meet a terrible team leader, then you sucked, just like me.
