Pros

Interesting problems, coworkers are generally excellent, beautiful campus. Compensation is good for the area. Sabbatical program is unique. Work is meaningful.

Cons

Management is stubborn and refuses categorically to listen to employee concerns. This has become more evident lately, especially with regards to the COVID-19 response. Despite being a healthcare company, Epic insists that employees return to the office in August without giving good reasons to justify the decision. Communication from leadership is often tone-deaf and demotivating. Employee satisfaction is a non-concern. Stock options are awful. Vacation policy is stingy, with only seven and a half paid holidays to supplement.

Pros

- Smart and driven co-workers - Potential to have impactful work

Cons

- Opaque decision making from upper management - Data driven only when data supports management’s wishes - Willfully ignore employee feedback and actively quash dissenting opinions and discussions (critical feedback about COVID-19 plan was deleted numerous times) - Passive aggressive behavior from management when employees don’t fall in line - “Flat” management structure that is not even close to flat - Uncompetitive PTO for the tech sector (only 2 weeks) - Bad work-life balance (having more work that you can handle is standard)

Pros

Great Salary. Pretty campus, if somewhat vapid in benefits, meaningful work, hires great people who want to make a difference and are willing to work hard.

Cons

Upper management is very opaque in its decision-making process and is unwilling to take the welfare of their employees seriously. The current Covid-19 response (attempting to skirt every health regulation and get people back in office as fast as public relations will allow them to) is emblematic of the issue. They want to churn and burn their employees and do not care about your well-being to dangerous extents. This is without even getting to our out-date stack and dev process.
