Delusional / Negligent Culture: Burnout, DEI and Covid don't matter here
Pros
If you want to devote your career to Epic and live in Madison, you're in the right place. There's a clear path for climbing the Epic ladder, but at what cost?
Cons
~~~Epic does not care about DEI~~~ "(Your workplace)... isn't the platform to fight for your social causes, not the platform to fight for your – any cause, really." - Epic President. (Source HIMSS) ~~~Delusional / Negligent Culture~~~ Egotistical Self-Perception: Epic seems to think that they are 'big tech' and that they are just as competent as their 'new main competitors': Apple, Google, Microsoft. Please. EMR market share has their egos boosted. Epic isn't even close to Top 100 or even 200 in market cap for the tech industry. HARD Madison Propoganda: If you come to Epic, you WILL experience propaganda regarding how great Madison is. If you're looking forward to being in Madison, great. If you have any hesitation, you will have to buy into their propaganda. Extremely low flexibility for location. Extreme burnout: Epic loves to throw excessive hours to their PMs. Imagine having to work 4am-4pm for 4 days during a weekend without extra compensation (not an isolated incident). Not to mention burnout is a common issue. Don't believe me? Reach out to a PM on LinkedIn. Ask about burnout, ask about the PM turnover rate, ask about how they really feel. Covid is a joke to them. Imagine being a healthcare company that is ignorant about Covid. How ironic! Epic tried to bring back employees into the office in Fall 2020 before any vaccines were nearly close to complete. The company-mandated in-person work had no adjustments for delta nor omicron. I had a manager require me to attend a room with several thousand people in it during these waves. How thoughtful and considerate.
