Pros

There is a ton of meaningful and challenging work to be done, and Epic is never short on new products and projects that feel like they're pushing the industry forward. The majority of my coworkers are driven, intelligent people willing to help you out when needed.

Cons

Employee health, safety, and overall well-being relating to workload expectations are not important to management. Epic's COVID response lagged in March, and in June they are now pushing for employees to go back to campus as new case numbers in Dane County hit all-time highs. All this for seemingly no other reason than an ingrained idea that "we do our best work on campus", despite evidence to the contrary as seen by the amazing support that customers have had from Epic relating to the COVID crisis since March 2020. The single-minded push towards bringing workers back to campus without any reason better than "CEO wants it" has been infuriating. I can't understand why we're weighing safety vs. incremental productivity improvements. It's baffling. This company will give you many opportunities to do great work, but you are on your own to look out for your physical and mental well-being, and upper management is completely disconnected from the daily experience of their thousands of worker bees. They are fine with this strategy, because they plan to hire a thousand new college grads next year anyway, so they have no incentive to keep you happy, healthy, or fulfilled.

Pros

+ Very smart coworkers + High degree of early project ownership + Great compensation for the area

Cons

- Unsafe COVID-19 and discriminatory George Floyd responses - Stubbornly opposed to remote work, despite current health benefits - Company vision / direction rarely clear - A lot of technical debt (legacy code / codebase) - Lower performers hung out to dry - Opaque performance review process solely up to manager discretion

Pros

Amazing food, smart coworkers, beautiful campus

Cons

Very limited growth opportunities; Epic prides itself on a flat/flexible corporate structure, which sounds nice in practice, but really leads to very few people actually advancing beyond the day-to-day work they were doing when they first started. Also, PTO is average at best, and work from home policy (or lack thereof) is archaic. Culture is very feedback-driven, but very few changes actually come from the feedback
