Pros

Good benefits (health care, salary)

Cons

Poor work life balance Poor Management Push "Culture" which really only means work long hours and don't complain Don't care about employees: Current response to COVID-19 is terrible and they are forcing 10,000 employees to work from campus and share bathrooms even though they have the infrastructure to support work from home and have done so successfully for months. This doesn't surprise me, as when I worked there I was threatened to work til 8pm every night (despite being a high performer) to help with "quality" and be a "leader". I chose to quit instead.

Pros

SD salary is great, especially for the area. If your direct manager is good, you have a good amount of freedom. Not everything you do directly impacts care, but plenty of projects are beneficial for both providers and patients.

Cons

The decisions that management makes aren't very transparent. This includes things such as salary and Epic's middling COVID response. The experience is *very* dependant on your direct manager. If they're bad, it can be difficult to keep going. There's lots of pressure to work late hours. Like most things, this depends a lot on your direct manager. Management seems to be terrified of employees having collective power and punishes those who try. See Lewis v Epic. This isn't rare, but it's still a con. Epic's COVID response hasn't been terrible, but it could use work. The reasons for every step we take are obfuscated, and all we're told is that Epic is using data somehow.

Pros

- Helpful and intelligent coworkers - Good compensation - Epic's code does help save lives

Cons

- Unlike its code, Epic's COVID policies end lives. Yes, Epic is requiring that all 10,000 of its employees return to campus over the next 2 months, even as cases are spiking in Dane County - Bad PTO and parental leave. PTO is 2 weeks for the first 2 years, then 3 weeks. You can buy more, but that is still quite limited. Parental leave is at 60% pay, is limited to 2 children who must be spaced at least 3 years apart, and must be re-payed if you leave the company within a year. - Repression of employees, especially during COVID: questions or concerns about COVID are banned from internal discussion forums. There is no transparency over the decision to return to campus, and employees are scared to speak up for fear or retribution.
