Pros

You will meet a few incredibly talented and wonderful people on your team or elsewhere. The food is pretty good.

Cons

Covid response has been pretty bad. You can read all the other reviews on how bad it has been, but I want to call out a different aspect which might become more important as everyone is forced back onto campus. If you get sick with Covid-19, Epic will do the bare minimum about it. The bare minimum is following through with contact tracing and that's it. Extra sick time? Nope. Ok, well at least less pressure from job responsibilities as you recover? Nope, get back to work; use your weekends to catch up! At least have some transparency about the number of employees catching the disease? Nope. There was only ever one communication about a single person catching Covid-19 back in March. I caught it later than that and I'm pretty sure others have too. But Epic hasn't been releasing such information since they want to force everyone back on campus. This is the end result which everyone gets to look forward to once September rolls around. I hope you're all prepared. Covid-19 is not fun. I would not recommend anyone else catch it. The symptoms change so quickly that you will always have the fear that you will end up in the hospital. I couldn't think about what to do if I had a family. And guess what? I still felt so guilty about the work I was missing out on that I still attended virtual meetings while I was sick. People could hear me coughing. That's the psychological hold that this company has on you. This pandemic period has been miserable for everyone, but Epic doesn't care. You're a covid cog, whether you've caught it, or are about to catch it.

Pros

The ability to travel was great! You are compensated well after the first few raises based on your contributions There is a lot of autonomy and I didn’t experience any micro management

Cons

The biggest challenge is getting throw into the deep end with seeming not many resources. It’s very much sink or swim the first several months on the job. I think people want to help but everyone seems to be so busy working on their own items. I felt management never had my best interests in mind as an employee and only valued the work I contributed to a specific project. I was a very high performed and was supposed to be allow a role transfer which management kept delaying eventually leading to me quitting.

Pros

*Fantastic health insurance *Tasty food at the cafeteria *Flexibility of job responsibilities (though this can also be a con if you've been encouraged to bite off more than you can chew) *Most coworkers are competent and smart *Decent salary (depending on role and tenure)

Cons

*The pressure to never say "no" or turn down opportunities for extra work *Upper management is increasingly out of touch *"Flat structure" means no opportunity for internal career growth, unless you're interested in management *Pressure to "drink the kool-aid" starts on day one; monthly all-hands meeting is accurately referred to as "work church" by some employees *CEO's thoughts and opinions are taken to be word of god *You are one FTE taking on the work of 1.5 or 2 FTEs *As others have mentioned here, the COVID-19 response from upper management has been abysmal *And this might be personal to me, but it's something others might consider a con: working for a multibillionaire every day is morally draining. Some people find the work meaningful, but after a certain point, it's hard to care about enriching the doctor-patient experience when you know the hours and hours you put into doing so serve to line a rich person's pockets. Seeing Epic get into the payor market and take advantage of this country's broken health insurance system has also been demoralizing.
