Pros

Competitive net salary thanks to own taxation scheme instead of the extortionate Belgian income taxation; learning and development opportunities; organisational mission.

Cons

Having to deal with the frustrations of a public administration, notably the formal character of many internal procedures; the little impact one manages to have in such a large, hierarchical machine; difficulties in dealing with a portion of the secretarial staff.

Pros

There are many interesting topics which are under scrutiny at the European Commission. The job can be quite challenging which is motivating. However there are very few opportunities to get a permanent position.

Cons

bureaucratic lack of involvement sharp segregation among units
