Pros

Satisfaction in helping to build Europe, multinational work environment, opportunity to improve language skills, good leave entitlement, some people may enjoy Brussels (others not so much).

Cons

Weak corporate culture, in many areas lack of visible leadership, management tends to shirk responsibility and brush off criticism. Limited training and mobility. No induction program for new staff. Terrible career prospects, employees should have no expectation of middle management responsibility before late 40s/50s. Situation likely to get even worse with current negotiations on the Staff Regulations. Deep cuts in 2004 means that salaries for new employees are not competitive with many of the richer member states (although old staff have kept their generous salaries). In the current fraught political environment, another severe drop in salaries (>20%) can be expected. Work often subject to whim of member states.

Pros

The money & security if being insulated from the outside world. The opportunity to work with smart, highly international people. Arguably, if you are idealistic, you might be able to convince yourself that what you are doing is of real importance to the outside world

Cons

no career progression - certinaly not meritocratic. Painfully slow to get anything done. very bureaucratic by definition. extreme public sector atmosphere and environment. Absolutely a grey, dull place to work in every sense. Very few employees under the age of 35 or so.

Pros

Really nothing. It is good for people over 55 or 60 and it is not a place that motivates you at all.

Cons

This wesbites asked me to write minimum 5 words as cons but I can easily write 5 pages in here! - Extremely bureaucratic - Very unskilled colleagues (the last developer that they hired didn't know even how to login into the operation system at all!!!) - No management at all and there is no control over what developers do. So you can simply spend whole your day watching YouTube and there will be no difference between you and the other one who works at all at the end of the day!!! - Managers are all busy with their own projects in the working hours - There is no commitment and professional ethics - You don't have any opportunity to grow in their system - Extremely dirty code and it is very difficult to maintain
