      No compensation for doing a Maternity Cover Management role for a whole year

      Cons

      After only one year as a Localization Specialist, I was asked to step in for my manager who was going on maternity leave for a year. Initially, I was promised a salary increase for all the extra responsibilities and new skills needed for the role as a Quality Manager. However, I was told only a couple of days later that they decided to not give me any salary increase, as "the rules had changed after the pandemic". This was never communicated to the team to begin with. I expressed my disappointment around this and was then “guaranteed” a compensation in the salary review the following year. This compensation never happened; despite all the positive feedback I had received from the other Quality Managers in my team. Shortly after this, I realised that my hard work was never going to pay off in this company, and I therefore decided to leave EG after nearly 3 years.

      If you value work-life balance, this could be an ideal place for you. It may especially suit professionals in their late 40s and 50s seeking stability and a slower-paced environment with less intensive learning demands.

      Cons

      Frequent reorganizations, lack of a clear long-term business strategy, slow-paced work environment, limited opportunities for learning and growth, and a toxic office culture where promotions are often based on favoritism rather than merit.

      Just another greedy corporation

      Pros

      Most middle to low level employees are nice and open, the general work environment is good because the people are good.

      Cons

      As most corporations, profit is the only goal. Redundancies are a quarterly recurrence (even though management tries their best to do them silently) and often the same positions are shortly after reopened in cheaper countries such as India, or assigned to contractors rather than full time employees. The company overall is very top heavy with a LOT of managers and directors but very little individual contributors.
