Pros

I wish I could find any.

Cons

A parody of a corporate. Work results are being measured by how much time you spent in office (on assigned seats and assigned days, as in a literal after school club for toddlers; only thing missing is an embroidery class to sew your initials onto your jacket) and quantity, quality is a foreign concept to the managers who are so out of touch and incapable, it's sometimes impressive to see. Floor managers are mostly kinder garden teachers at it's best, with little knowledge of the work, field, market or any capability of leading people. Resulting in managers walking around floors and sneaking on where people are and if they god forbid didn't come or leave 5 minutes later or earlier, as they have literally nothing better to do or say. Time management I have no words to describe rather than a joke to everyone involved, as all meetings starts few minutes late, due to poor time management of the leadership, resulting in sending out work emails and little "role-play requests" /what the refer to as training, as that is another department lacking/ on the weekends, as example Sundays at 12.00am. I would rather defecate in my hands and clap than ever sign the contract again, or yet worse, refer someone to work here. If you are being hunted by a recruiter, or considering to apply for any position there, run as fast as you can. Even though the work offer are presented as account management (interview doesn't correspond to the actual workflow whatsoever), THIS IS A CALL CENTER, where work is measured by the lengths of calls and not quality of the job. Horrendous working practices, workflow in extremely toxic and hostile working environment. Only bearable part of the work are all the depressed and demotivated employees, who has been tricked into accepting the offer. If you speak up, you will be punished or threatened with terminating the contract, both in low minion roles and mid-management. No career growth, no career development or learning opportunities; no possibilities to increase your salary to match the market rate, as publicly explained by the director that Expedia is in a debt since Covid and employees should be glad to even have a job, as the unemployment rate in USA raiser (completely irrelevant to European standarts).

Pros

Some good benefits in line with the industry. Your co-workers most likely will be nice people to know and spend some time while working. Laid back environment.

Cons

There's no ownership of the product. After several re-orgs and bad organisational and tech decisions, all good experienced developers left. As a consequence tech standards are very low, It didn't used to be like that. We were proud of what we deployed to production, we had ownership and control over all parts of the process, from the idea, development, deployment processes till monitoring and maintaining it stable. The company culture promotes "stay in your lane" kind of thinking. Be prepared to be bored out of your mind. All processes are all very slow moving. There's too many politics, management trying to push each other out, Be warned of layoffs. Like any corporation, they'll make you want to be part of a "family"... but then one day you learn someone got laid off because leadership changed and cut without looking. CEO and everybody at the top get ridiculous amount of compensation compared to the rest.

A Disheartening Experience at Expedia Group

Pros

Some people are truly smart and want to drive change and efficiencies, but often get parked on the side because leadership doesn't like to hear what's not working, rather focus on flashy headlines

Cons

I feel compelled to share the disappointing experience of working for Expedia Group after years of dedication and generating billions of business for them. On the surface, Expedia Group (known as EG, acronyms is the only effective thing they love to create), claims to be an organization that values high performing individuals, direct and open communication and diversity and inclusion, but my time there revealed a disturbingly different reality. Firstly, the company's commitment to diversity is nothing more than a facade. While they frequently tout their commitment to diverse talent, the actual environment is one that systematically pushes out anyone who doesn't conform to the homogenous culture perpetuated by the leadership team. The politics within the organization are suffocating, and it's disheartening to see how much effort is wasted on promoting individuals who are skilled in playing office politics rather than those who genuinely contribute to the company's success. Furthermore, the company's resources are consistently misallocated. Instead of investing in and nurturing high-performing talent, the leadership seems more interested in promoting those who align with their personal ideologies. This results in a culture of sycophancy rather than innovation. It's disappointing to witness so much potential squandered in favor of maintaining the status quo. This is evident and clear when looking at the share price decline vs its largest competitor, Booking.com, who continues to grow exponentially and take market share from a clearly terribly managed organization where neuroticism and individual interest is more important that the growth of the entire organization. The most egregious example of this skewed approach to talent management comes during tough times. When faced with challenges, the company's true colors shine through as they lay off a majority of female leaders above the age of 40. It's evident that the decision to let go of these experienced professionals is not based on performance or merit, but rather on a willingness to conform to the preferences of the predominantly white, American male leadership team. It's disheartening to realize that an organization that promotes itself as progressive and inclusive could perpetuate such a toxic work environment. The hypocrisy of claiming diversity while actively working against it is a testament to the company's lack of integrity. My experience there left me disillusioned and frustrated, and I strongly advise anyone considering joining this company to think twice before subjecting themselves to such a demoralizing environment. In conclusion, Expedia Group is a prime example of a company that prioritizes optics over substance, political maneuvering over genuine talent, and conformity over true diversity. I hope that my review serves as a cautionary tale for those seeking a fulfilling and equitable workplace.
