Pros

Never had a lay off. Decent pay for coming out of college and great benefits.

Cons

FedEx doesnt care about it's people. From the independent contractors, managers, to part time package handlers. The goals go up every year (or six months) while nothing changes to make the job easier. Usually in a production enviroment goals rise as new technology is introduced to make the job easier. I feel bad they way FedEx makes us treat our part time workers by working them as hard as we can then telling them to get OFF THE CLOCK. The work is back breaking, fast paced, and very dirty. As for the independent contractors, FedEx has this ingenious way of making them bear all the burden of owning a business and taking on all cost of fuel and maintenance. They are supposed to just deliver and pick up packages, but almost all of them have to either LOAD or HELP LOAD their van each and every morning.

Pros

Lots of recognition. Almost too much which becomes meaningless over time. Ok work life balance.

Cons

Went overboard with cuts during bad economy with permanent reduction in salary, 401K, merit and bonus. Most entry level and mid level managers below average in intellect and motivation.

Pros

Excellent benefits, fair pay considering you only need a high school diploma to be hired. They offer tuition reimbursement, but good luck finding time to use it! There are some opportunities to move into other positions. Reduced airfare on airline travel (until someone screwed it up for everyone else, then all are punished and the privilege suspended.)

Cons

Micro managed to the Nth degree. Packages per hour, stops per hour, tracking not only every stop a courier makes, but gaps in time- one hour vs half hour lunch. And that is nothing! Prepare to put in a 12 hour day and get calls all hours of the day and night from employees for call offs and personal problems. If you are not a member of the "boys club" you will not be in the circle of those promoted. Got a number of call offs- get ready to cover for every missing employee. Jump in the can and unload those packages! Get in those trucks and deliver packages- or make pickups. Hey, don't forget the office work you need to get done, even though you are on the road-no excuses! Late freight, so meet your couriers on the road and pray they give you a service disruption. Oh, and God forbid you get a sick relative. My mother was in the hospital and told she had cancer, but our managing director said "I can't let you take any time off- you are a MANAGER" and this even though I was DUE vacation...this was in April and our fiscal year ended June 1. I bled purple until the bruises I had out numbered my pain threshold.
