Do you want to be reminded how expendable you are?

Pros

Good not great benefits. Flexible scheduling but remember overtime is mandatory so that will go out the window during tax season.

Cons

Out of touch management that is completely disconnected from the realities of the job their employees are doing to the point that it is not uncommon that even your direct supervisor will have no idea how to do your job. You will be treated like number and constantly threatened with your goals (oh and they're going to change often) even if you're meeting them. If you don't want to go into sales or management your going to be eventually treated like dead weight pushed to the side.

Bully environment

Pros

Good benefits. Gym on campus

Cons

Fidelity has a culture of junior high bullying. Associates will defame a colleague and lie in order to elevate themselves, and HR will support these Associates in order to protect the firm. This firm is not interested in retaining the best and the brightest but rather sacrifices them to the childish antics of those who are threatened by the more competent employees. The work environment is hostile.

Pros

Fair pay (not exactly up to industry standards, but OK) and AMAZING benefits! Health insurance, life insurance, many discount benefits through a number of vendors (Verizon, etc.), great short and long term disability insurance and of course a decent retirement plan.

Cons

When it comes to advancement at Fidelity the mantra is, "It's not WHAT you know, but WHO". Your skills and experience mean very little when it comes to advancement. To get ahead you just need to be friends with the right people. It matter more who you play golf or poker with than what your experience or expertise is. And it's starting to show in the quality of the firm. As is the compartmentalization of duties and leaving major decisions to each units management team with very little oversight. This has created a few sandbox bullies who have been allowed to run roughshod over their particular departments without any ramifications. So weigh your options carefully if you're looking at applying at Fidelity.
