Pros

If you love creating complex, untraceable bugs and a 9-5 M-F paycheck, there’s no better place than Fidelity

Cons

No “Agility” Knowledge, expertise and creativity are all liabilities You’ll report to young veterans whose whole engineering careers has been at Fidelity. These out of college lifers will lecture you in software design and “best practices” These best practices are expected to produce serious bugs which are “normal” and “part of life” You’ll be very busy adhering to Einstein definition of insanity as you create more bugs while fixing an old one. Your “completed”, months overdue, deliverables will also entertain customers, who’ll find fascinating features as they test your application in production and with real money

Pros

Fidelity has a good brand and most of the employees are smart and want to do the right thing. It is nice that it is a private company with huge wallets which allows them to invest when the market (stock or job) is down. Good place to work out of school and get some good experience by moving around and trying different roles. There is also a student debt benefit which is good for anybody that can leverage it. Due to their volumes, they will continue to make lots of money.

Cons

They have flattened the organization as part of the "agile transformation" and expect you to make lots of lateral moves (forget climbing the ladder unless you are very junior). They have pushed out most of the good senior level leaders or bought them out via VBO. They are catering to young workers who they can pay less and shuffle from one group to another. Leadership is not engaging or inspiring.

Pros

- Coworkers are friendly and helpful - External educational courses are covered

Cons

- Compensation is far below industry average and there is absolutely no negotiating with HR. As you move up, your salary increase is a fixed percentage on top of your current salary so if you come in with a low salary you'll never make much regardless of the position you move up to. - Bloated middle and upper management. Lots of directors, VPs, and SVPs with no apparent purpose. - Senior management is old and just waiting to retire. They don't want to take any risks or implement any changes. The company is a slow moving dinosaur. - The company is still very sexist and racist. Still predominantly run by old white men.
