Pros

Pay can be good, the employees are generally nice, and the unstructured nature of the place allows you to take it easy sometimes. Some people are very knowledgeable, and if you're lucky you can achieve a lot. Some people strive to improve themselves and the work they touch.

Cons

Many people are stuck in their ways. Some decisions from above are a bit odd. A bit of a gong show. Communications are weak, and the drive for quality is lacking in some employees. Some process decisions are ridiculous.

Pros

WLB, No PIP, no layoff. If you just want a place to retire and a stable braindead job working on business logic that means nothing to you, this is a good fit.

Cons

Low pay, slow promo, no growth. There are some especially incompetent managers/directors here. Who came to Canada in the early 2000s and pretty much stay here forever and just seem to be out of touch with pretty much everything. You are literally wasting your life here. Any self-respecting, intellegent, or aspirational indivdual would not last long here.

Pros

Bottom level management is flexible, trying to earn more benefits for employee. Team culture is good, most teams have a shared vision that a technical problem is a technical one, not a political one (i.e. not trying to dodge responsibility in order to avoid punishment once it fails). Meeting is minimal (10-20 mins each day mostly, this is team-specific, but generally it's similar for most backend teams) work-life balance is great. Insurance coverage is great.

Cons

Top executives apparently care more about the stock prices than the company's real performance. They try to squeeze budget to make the chart prettier, which indeed sabotages the productivity. Paid is lower than similar companies. They're pushing RTO policy, not remote friendly.
