Pros

If you are good at your job and do your work, you are less likely to be hassled too much.

Cons

Management have no interest in their existing qualified employees. If they can get anyone with an ABN and is willing to work on a fee per call contract basis, then the long term qualified people are out the door. Constant name and shame emails listing the people who have not reduced the annual leave balance to no more than 8 days outstanding, lists of those whose GPS data shows they have sped a few klms above the speed limit and whatever else the helicopter is targeting this month. There was a customer requirement for steel cap shoes, was told we had to supply ourselves and claim on tax, which is against PPE law. They know no one will complain due to the constant threat of being replaced with a fee for service contractor. Unrealistic call schedules mean you often need to work without any breaks to get the job done.
