Pros

Targets are realistic and there is very good earning potential. There's an all expenses paid trip called "Winner's Circle" for you and a friend if you beat your target. These are incredible trips and a lot of fun! There's good career progression and clear progression paths and promotion routes. You can move between departments and areas - although bear in mind that different teams are better than others. e.g. selling to Gartner for IT leaders is good, or anything in finance or HR. One to avoid is Gartner for Sales leaders - it's well known internally as the one to avoid!

Cons

Really poor culture - feels a bit like a fraternity or "Lad" culture, it's all about working long hours, then going to the pub to celebrate/ drown your sorrows. Not great if you have a life outside of work or kids (they promote how great they are with parents, but didn't see any of that). Poor culture - if you're a high performer everyone loves you, if you're not part of the "in-crowd", one of the favourites, or the high performer you're often ignored and you have to fight to get attention. It just results in everyone fighting to stand out. You're expected to work ALL the time. You can earn a lot but you have to work long days, and expected to work weekends and check-in during vacations. You earn well, but you have no time to spend it! Management is quite poor - I've had a few managers and it seems that high performers are just promoted to management without any thought or training. It's a culture of everyone pushing their own agendas, trying to step on top of everyone else, earn as much as possible at the detriment of their team mates. After a few years it just grinds you down.

Pros

A job you can probably do in your sleep, unless your manager decides it's time to enforce arbitrary targets. Interesting for the first year, then you run out of things to learn and they will try to keep you busy with completely pointless projects that absolutely no one will ever look at again after you finish them. If you want an easy job with an average paycheck, this is the place for you. (You can WFH full time!) There are some really great people working at the company, so if you're lucky you'll make friends. Gartner is a safe place to land, no layoffs in sight, company will continue to grow no matter the economic uncertainty.

Cons

Pay is below market, and with inflation doing what it is and the company only giving what they call "merit" increases every year, you will basically take a pay cut every April. Competitors in London will pay 10-30k more for the same role. Career advancement is pushed as the big reason to come to Gartner and stay. The idea is that since they pay below market, the learning opportunities and brand should keep you engaged. This does not work long term as you run out of things to learn fairly quickly and promotions are far and few between. If you do get promoted, increases are so minimal, it's almost not worth the extra work you're taking on.
