Pros

Great benefits and good compensation package.

Cons

If you are looking to work in the California end user Market then run the other way. They are constantly hiring since most people leave in less than a year due to terrible management, bad accounts, and unrealistic expectations in this market. My manager is good but the other manager on the End user side is a horrible bully that has already lost half of his team in less than a year. I am disgusted in the way that Gartner has allowed him to treat his employees in what can easily lead to a lawsuit. Gartner looks at their employees as liabilities and instead of working to help resolve the issues that have persisted within Gartner for years, they just keep hiring more people. Many of the managers have little to no experience, no respect for your personal time, micromanage, and just constantly belittle their teams. The attrition rate within this market is very high so you have customers that have had little to no support for over a year and it will take a lot of time to get them to change their mindset. The top performer left the company, and a few others have already left or are on their way out. The managers have such a hard time hiring people that they will tell you anything and even lie to get you to join their team. Don't make the same mistake that I did. I am just staying for a few more months until I find a better a job. I heard people in other regions may be happy at Gartner but make sure that you join a team where they have an experienced manager and a region with a low attrition rate.

Pros

- Strong brand presence - Work with some of the smartest minds in the industry - Interact with some of the most senior level executives in large companies as clients/prospects - Good business model, profitable, and growing - Solid training regimen, intensive and structured

Cons

- Growth target unrealistic - A sales career here is 95% dependent on the account set you receive. I know many great sellers who got stuck with dud accounts which led to their demise - A good salesperson does not make a good manager; Gartner's lack of true sales management layer is concerning. We don't need managers who manage by an Excel spreadsheet, impose authority yet are unable to help in the field. There have been a lot of managers who went back down to sales roles because they weren't successful and Gartner should learn from this. Sending someone to a "leadership training course" does not automatically make someone a capable leader - Limited ways to commercially position Gartner solutions...in essence sellers have 2 or maybe 3 different product types to work with customers which limits the scope significantly - CEO recently embarked on a large salesforce increase, yet did not keep up with the analyst resources. This has led to a lot of overworked analysts (who already are weighed down by processes and bureaucracy) who end up leaving. Star analysts recently who left to go to Porche and Salesforce are good examples of this.

Pros

Competitive wages, Great Place To Develop YOUR business acumen selling to C Level

Cons

You are not told when hired that you might not pass the training academy, thus should be a very transparent process as many leave their international jobs and have no job security. Not a great culture for new starters as nothing you learn in 2 months of academy is applied on the floor with the sales team.
