Pros

Almost from day 1 you are given lots of responisbilities and oppurtunities to influence not only the H&M group but also global fashion business in one way or another. If you do well and work hard, career oppuyrtunities are endless, it is not uncommon that a business graduate within two years have advanced to being sales controller (in effect, sales manager) in an H&M-market somewhere in the world, or you can move to south east asia to work with sourcing at H&M production offices.

Cons

Only one big downside really, the pay is a disgrace if you enter as a university graduate, H&M is between 20 and 50% below industry standard, this is a difference that seem to stay or even become larger as you move up the career ladder. It may be OK to work at a place where you don't have a high salary, but it is not OK to work somewhere where you have a bad salary.

Pros

The people you meet there will become friends outside of work and provide a good support network whilst working there. My job role was enjoyable as It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, but with all retail roles it does have its challenges. Sometimes provides good opportunities to progress, but long and slow process. Reputable company with good customer engagement.

Cons

Area Teams and support office are unsupportive and have unfair expectations of their staff. You are not treated as a person, merely a number and the likelyhood of you progressing is whether you know other people within the business. Management as a whole are never held accountable, do not work with integrity and overall create a toxic and unhealthy work environment through favouritism and not keeping to their own standards. A very narcissistic workplace that often pretends to care but inevitably uses your weaknesses against you. Not a role that you can go home and not worry about, you are made to feel pressure and not in a healthy or uplifting way.

Don’t do it

Pros

Employee discount is 25% off. Oh and the benefits are definitely top tier, the only reason why I stayed so long.

Cons

H&M used to be a place for growth. It’s now turned into an every many for himself type of environment. They no longer believe in growth and would rather look externally to fill higher positions. At least five of my coworkers all quit within the same year and were all with the company for over 10 years. The area team only cares about themselves and profit. They definitely do not care about their people. Oh and the schedule… don’t ever have a family emergency because there’s no one to cover you. You will be a slave to that place until you quit. I got written up once because I had an emergency with my son and left 15 minutes early. FIFTEEN MINUTES! I’d rather stand in the unemployment line then EVER go back to that place.
