Pros

The ability to learn so much because you’re literally the only one doing multiple jobs. You end up getting so much experience but they overwork you.

Cons

It’s like a virus in a computer. Everything is infected. Leadership is bad. HR broken. Pay is horrible.

Pros

You are working directly toward positive patient health outcomes, and that kind of purpose does give you a sense of joy and reward. Pay hovers below competitive, you can begin training on the job to obtain your licensure eventually.

Cons

As is common in the medical field, there is generous understaffing, paired with little to no tolerance for mistakes, directed toward patient outcomes. The company as a whole does not offer retirement options for employees, and pay has been dropping (incentive pay, critical pay) since COVID ended. They are cutting back tremendously and rapidly on employee incentives.

Pros

Somehow, they still have some good staff left.

Cons

HCA is the worst example of how bad for profit healthcare can get. Everything is financially driven, there is no investment to hire or keep good staff, their charting system is archaic and shows how little they care about patient care and keeping up with evidence based practices. Their facilities are dirty, old and germ filled. I have worked at two of their facilities in Austin and the only part of the once hospital that was decent was the labor/delivery because it is necessary to make their $$. Patients delivering like to have choice. Patients who are hospitalized due to sickness don’t. In my last role, rather than give highly qualified and good RNs any raise they chose to hire new grads who know nothing or people from Nepal and Kenya. Great for them but the learning curve is so great and it is on the staff, who are already overloaded, to train these people up. Never let a loved one go into an HCA facility.
