Pros

You serve the community and working with physicians/nurses has been extremely rewarding. They genuinely care about the their community and whom they serve.

Cons

Big organization, lots of different leaders and nobody talks to each other. In leadership they care about the profitability of a service versus the need (and the stock price). Lots of doctors would like to leave but HCA has a strong hold of the market out here making transferring for them and nurses tough.

Pros

I work with an amazing team and we get ourselves through difficult times. My unit in particular has amazing teamwork and we are constantly helping each other out.

Cons

Although management asks us what they can do to make our job easier, it feels our genuine concerns are dismissed. We have unsafe nurse:patient ratios for the acuity we are taking care of, we are on the lower end when it comes to hourly pay, we have not ever gotten hazard pay for working with COVID patients during the pandemic, and overall it feels like they only listen to our concerns on certain topics. I understand that there are difficulties when it comes to expensies, but when we see expansion after expansion to the hcs hospitals around the area, it really brings the question of "can you keep enough staff to fill the expanded hospitals?" It seems that there are so few core staff members and there is no focus on retention. Instead, we just keep seeing contract nurses and travel nurses. While we greatly appreciate them helping us stay afloat, it would be nice if there was a focus on actually compensating the staff that has been loyal to the company.

Coworkers are great to work with... Higher ups need a reality check

Pros

I love the atmosphere that the coworkers bring to each and every patient every day. They create a community like atmosphere and the desire to help others shows throughout the hospital...well those that are on the floor and actually working with the patients or keeping them safe and rooms clean.

Cons

The upper management is losing reality... They think nurses leaving the company and going to travel position is okay... They think it's okay to hire contact nurses at a extremely higher rate ( and I am NOT MAD OR GOING AFTER CONTRACT NURSE AT ALL! GET THAT MONEY) but if you pay the workers that are loyal the same amount your spending 13+ weeks on a traveler there would not be so much turn over and your hospitals will have a better patient to nurse ratio, less falls, less med mistakes. To actually enjoy the work life balance
