Pros

- decent (but not great) overall compensation package - huge organization with plenty of upward opportunities (worldwide) - very structured and policy driven (if you like it)

Cons

- SUPER SUPER bureaucratic (10 layers of approvals to buy a roll of toilet paper) - as a result, strategies are very "safe" but the structure kills any innovative idea - guidelines everywhere (supposingly for good corporate governance and encourage best practice sharing but turns out to be excuses for people not to do things and people create long and overly-detailed guidelines just to justify their job and importance) - no support at all from senior management for your career growth. Senior management are smart but they only care about themselves. - yes, there are opportunities to go upwards but you need to work so so hard on your own to build relationships and create opportunities

Pros

If you're looking for a overtly "stable" no tension non aggressive place to work - this is it. They do have some of the best HR practices though and are located in civilization as against the dark side of the moon in Hinjewadi!

Cons

If you're looking for speed, learning & world class professionalism - this is NOT the place to be. Plus you need to be an old timer - newbies will find it hard to break through the old boy network as knowing the "right" people is important.

Pros

-Not chained to the branch. -Encouraged to network and attend business seminars/functions to earn more business. -Good work/life balance for the most part. -HSBC looks good on a resume (at least for now).

Cons

-HSBC-US Business Banking is slowly but surely becoming widget-focused despite HSBC's preference for higher-end clientele. -Too many different systems, MCD, CSM, CIF, Callidus, etc. -Callidus is a train wreck that reports incentive incorrectly so you are forced to track down what you should be getting paid. If you don't pay close attention, you might not get paid correctly. -Obstructionist, drawn out, laborious, tedious, hours-long account opening procedures. -Extremely intimidated by government regulators. -Ridiculously conservative lending. -Not a good place for most salespeople.
