Pros

The company hosts quarterly events.

Cons

Toxic atmosphere: cultural divide between local and Chinese employees is breeding serious animosity. High staff turnover: local and European staff members, both full-time and contractors, leave in masses due to company culture and lack of coherent strategy. Non-full time Chinese employees, many of whom are well educated stay so some strange reason. Work hours: Full-time employees work very long-hours and are paid relatively well; contractors are paid peanuts and are expected to work same number of hours.

Culture Shock Extreme

Pros

Apparently, they're quite good at technology, but the company in the UK is struggling at the moment

Cons

As a Brit, you cannot possibly be prepared for the culture shock of working at Huawei. They say it takes 6 months to get used to it - I didn't last that long. Everything from the neverending 'ChinEnglish' emails sent from China HQ which are completely unintelligible, to the overlapping and unclear reporting lines to the complete lack of interest in staff welfare, let alone opinons. This is hierarchy like you've never experienced before, where you are expected unquestioningly to follow the instructions of your superiors. Free thought and creativity are not welcomed. Official advice to new employees is not to come and think you can make changes, but just to get used to the way Huawei works. Other irritations include being given out of date technology and second hand mobile phones (yes really!) and ridiculously low travel cost limits which will lead you searching for last minute budget hotel options. Only accept a job at Huawei if you really have no other option ....

Pros

ok pay. well known company on cv

Cons

painful onbording due to unpreparedness and amateur management. no on the job or systems training whatsoever. office politics and burocracy is at frustrating levels. people sleep on the job at their desks like its no big deal, claim it0spart of chinese culture - makes onsite client and supplier meetings awkward. language barrier makes it impossible to exchange information. felt like I was sorrunded by 8 year olds, they cant think more then 1 step ahead. if you leave at the end of your shift you ll get evil look from the expats. constant dead fish smell in the office.
