Pros

Decent processes that respect PMBOK, ITIL, SDLC and SCRUM. Varied solutions across industries. Solid professionals across the board.

Cons

Overly matrixed; customer value best achieved with PE's own verticle resources, rather than matrixed.

Pros

As a "Tier 1" employee, I was given a sweet retention package. The benefits are pretty good - including discounts on all sorts of services (AT&T phone bill, hotel stays, etc). IBM also practices "workforce flexibility" so I can work from home every single day.

Cons

It's an isolating existence. All of the things you expect about IBM are true - tons of bureaucracy, tons of politics - a "matrixed" organization which means you have more than one boss and roles are not clear. There's also a big difference between those IBMers who are "career" and those who are acquired. Despite the years of experience I brought when I was acquired, I still remain in a pretty junior role - even though I get paid 30% more than my peers based on my many years of experience (i guess getting paid well isn't a con, but it is when my responsibilities are so small compared to what I did prior to the acquisition).

Pros

+ smart colleagues + LOVED the working from home + good starting salary (but see below - they gave COL increases but raises weren't great) + tons of autonomy and challenges + lots of opportunities to transfer internally + Research group is great + client focus

Cons

- work being moved offshore -- constant threat of lay-off -- very unnerving - managers are useless politicians - employees below exec level (so, band 10 and under) treated like muppets - senior mgmt detached & largely clueless - mandatory rah-rah conferences in vegas - stay out of GBS! they work consultants to death - small salary increases
