Pros

Years ago it was a great company. The last 10 to 15 years have been horrible. Senior management cares about no one but themselves. HR is incompetent and a puppet. They are pretty much worthless when it comes to being an employee advocate.

Cons

You are constantly looking over your shoulder to be permanently laid off. Pay for performance is a joke. It doesn't matter if you[re a top performer and have been for years, one day they will eventually get rid of you when they need to cut more cost. Everyone is just a number. There is no focus at all on what should be their most valued resource: their employees!

Pros

IBM's not a bad place to work. Currently most are being moved back to select offices so don't join unless you're looking at being at one of the offices. Many of us are being asked to relocate to one or leave. This is the current IBM. Management up the chain is pretty faceless and no one down the chain feels like they care about us as people, just resources. When they have a layoff it's called a Resource Action. They cut resources, not people.

Cons

Never knowing if you'll be a part of the resource action. I've known quite a few people who are very good get that. It's because of mandatory head cuts, not because they weren't up to par

Pros

For 10+ years IBM was a great place to work. My blood was blue, and I lived and breathed IBM. Great people, awful managers (although there are a few exceptions - typically those who made it to upper management from rank and file positions).

Cons

Despite profits in the 10's of billions, IBM can now only afford a "statutory minimum" minimum packages, despite offering significantly better separation packages less than a year ago. Ginni .. 17 consecutive quarters of declining revenue on the trott. How much longer do we continue this trend ? Either the trend must stop, or the leaders must go!
