Pros

The benefits that the company gives you, as medical assurance, free time, home office and further plans of when you get old, I don't know the name in English for it. The english learn is very good. Here in Brazil working in IBM we can learn English better, cause we work with Americans and Indians guys and it forces ourselves to learn the language. In the intranet of the company we have a lot of courses that we can try to do and maybe get a certification in a specific technology, it is good in the company as well, my opinion.

Cons

The salary, for sure! The promotions are so sad... kind you receive a increase of R$30,00 per year in you monthly payment. The most sad thing in my opinion are the salary, promotions and the gift of the year, a kind of money that we receive calculated in function of the profits of the company during the last year, in this year 2009, for example I received about R$ 300,00 reais. It is less than 1/3 of my monthly payment. In a company that have a huge profits comparing with other companies and we receive a so sad gift that let us demotivated to work at the company, and we work a lot!!! A lot of hours!

Pros

Relative job security - in a tough environment IBM will weather the storm better than others.

Cons

There is little employee representation at IBM, and no Union that can be spoken of. Performance ratings [PBC] are often used to justify separation and avoid redundancy payments. There is a forced distribution on performance ratings across GBS whereby over 60% of staff must come up as "average performer". As a resuly your objectives [which are forced onto you, not negotiated as such: an email from the MD tells you what to write] are more or less binding depending on what rating the "management team" wants to give you.

Pros

Because it's IBM, one of the best company's on the world.

Cons

It's complicate to manage business travel's need with your development, like you can't know if you will be able to stay in Rio for the next 2 years, so you could do a MBA. There are a lot of oportunities to grown, but there are so many rules, that some good people can't reach where they planned.
