Pros

Great Management translates into a admirable and likable workplace. This is exactly what IBM does. Some may say that the pay is not competitive but the rewards/recognitions and other perks you get more than compensate you for it. I would recommend anyone to work here if you get an oppurtunity. IBM is really great at promoting education and self-improvement which only enhances your portfolio of assets, giving you a cuttin edge in today's market.

Cons

Starting salary is on the lower end of each bracket but again the perks/benefits more than compensate you for it.

Pros

Large company with opportunities in many fields. You can change jobs from time to time. You can move to other parts of the country or internationally and stil work for the same company. Benefits are still as good as any other company. The company is profitable and, overall, seems to be managed for the long haul.

Cons

For a US based mechanical engineer - they appear to be getting out of the hardware business and are moving work to Asia. So the future is limited. There is little opportunity to advance engineering skills because they use the lowest cost manufacturers, so the technology is always the same. New materials and processes are seldome encountered.

Pros

A nice name to have on your CV. While your technical training might be limited due to the amount of budget freeze in place but what you will learn is how to 'reset expectations' such as in the case when a client approach you for something which is outside the norm or agreed upon then you will need to let the client knows. There are a lot of information floating around the internal website which will be useful if you're inclined to train yourself up. Benefits - their Qantas Club membership is one of the cheapest I've seen and automatic eligibility to almost every German auto marque in existence to save some serious coins.

Cons

Red tapes galore - you just can't get anything done without pulling out the chain saw and chop each and every red tapes in your way. By the time you're done with cutting the red tapes, your ideas or innovation become somewhat obsolete or you've already forgotten what you wanted to achieve! Management - they seem to be concentrated on the statement of work, if it's a little out of the SOW that's classed as BAU (business as usual) tasks, they will approach the client (or the account team first) to raise the requested job as a project and charge accordingly.
