Never lose focus of what YOU want if you work here

Pros

Good pay, flexibility in working arrangement, opportunity for international work experience and travel, deep pockets and opportunity to explore new ideas and approaches. Good place to work for 2-3 years, especially if you never for one moment forget about what you want to get from the experience and make it happen.

Cons

Constant reorgs and regular threatening with layoffs - every 4-6 months minimum the rumors begin, and this has been the case for the past 8 years - can feel like an abusive relationship. The company is incredibly top heavy, and many in senior positions lack real leadership skills. The best worker bees can get overloaded quickly, and leave. Have a sparkling personality and great sense of humor? This is not the place for you - big cones of silence buildings with most working through lunch with their door shut or not coming to the depressing office. No sense of comraderie. Total alignment to short term thinking and quarterly plans. Expected to hit the ground running in any position with little to no training or guidance. Pension plan long gone.

Pros

Horizontal movement across different organizations is available.

Cons

It is difficult to be recognized in the huge organization. Upward mobility is VERY slow, even with excellent ratings.

Pros

There are good discounts with business partners. It looks good on a resume when you look for a new job (and most of us inevitably will).

Cons

Layoffs even when the company's profits are in the billions. The CEO describes layoffs as 'business as usual'. We're expected to create world-class products using worthless, freebie tools that don't work properly. Managers change jobs regularly every two years, leading to instability in every group. Quotas in performance reviews stop careers from progressing. The internal financial results our bonuses are based on are always somehow lower than the public results, so our bonuses are always lower than projected.
