Pros

401K is decent. Benefits are better than some; worse than others. The check comes on time.

Cons

Extremely demanding and short term focused. Lack of management ability to plan and manage new opportunities. Little consideration of an individuals performance is actually tied to their rating system. The numbers are pre-set and management must adhere to the plans they are given. A certain percentage will be rated high and a certain percentage will be rated low. This ensures that executives will meet their targets and serves to limit the opportunities for salary and bonus increases for tha average employee.

Pros

Most of the engineers you work worth are over-qualified for the work asked of them. Everyone is polite and professional. Junior software developers will be technically challenged. It looks good on your resume. Great career track for a FEW management-bound people.

Cons

Salaries are being reduced thru raises which don't keep up with inflation. Everyone worries about being fired -- everyone is ranked, and bottom 2.5% are whacked every 6 months. Medical and dental benefits are expensive for families. IBM's interpretation of Agile software development methology has turned the place into a sweatshop. Every Band 9 ($120K+) faces a "move up or move out" dilemma.

Pros

You get to work with intelligent people who are also nice. Brand-name recognition. Generous compensation package. Being able to telecommute saves time wasted sitting in traffic, helps the environments, and boosts employee productivity. I'm not a morning person, but happily works late into night sometimes if needed. Management in general are competent and understanding. It doesn't hurt that employees get all sorts of little perks, too, from discount show/movie tickets to free museum admission, from travel priviledges (cheaper car rental, hotel stays) to employee pricing at some of the customer websites -- Apple, Sony, Panasonic, GE, Sharp, Philips, to name a few.

Cons

Politics, politics, politics. A lot of decisions are made from top down. Bureaucracy.
