Pros

It is a good place to start your career if you are fresh out of school and have no experience. The company offers slightly above average salary for start, which gets increased twice in the first year and every 12 months afterward. Ability to get experience with some interesting technologies such as mainframes etc.

Cons

After 2 or so years in the job you are getting underpaid and the management chooses to hire graduates who are cheaper than to give enough money to the senior employees. Because of this the fluctuation is quite high. People management roles are given higher relevance than technical roles, even first line managers have much higher benefits (mobile phone for personal use, car, ..) even though their skills and value they bring for the company are questionable.

Pros

More stability than most companies in the IT industry. IBM offers flexible working hours, a true commitment to working remotely, and the tools to empower remote employees The company offers solid benefits, and because it touches all areas in IT, employees do have a chance to experience different areas.

Cons

The communications function is highly bureaucratic, highly political, and overall does not necessarily reward the most competent employees, but instead ones that fit a specific HR box. All companies have to deal with this issue, but it's especially bad at IBM and in the Comms function. It is not a function where young comms professionals should seek to work, although if you have at least five years of experience and want a big brand name, I would recommend IBM only as a short-term (three years) assignment before moving on to another company to leverage your skills and knowledge. It is not a place to plan a career.

Pros

A company motivated by innovation and research-the crimeajewel in the crown of any high tech company in the information age.As we move to NGN fibre networks all over the US and Europe, and download speeds of 100mbs become the norm for everyone, and all tech devices become ip enabled,(with the ability to communicate with each other-even though manafactured differently by different companies with different designs),the pace of the information age and the demands on people in both their work and home life will increase dramaticly. In this world of instant information and feedback, innovation and speed to market in a compeditive enviroment will be key to corporations and SME's winning out.

Cons

Long hours.Too many meetings. Not enough promotion prospects.
