Pros

Good learning, excellent options for advancement. There are a multitude of online and in-person training opportunities that build skill sbeyond immediate job requirements. IBM also has general philosophy of growth through experience, encouraging employees to advance through taking roles in other business units over the course of their career.

Cons

Can be very beaurocratic. Siloed business units challenge company's ability to work in unilateral direction. Many legacy employees overly reliant on conventional ways of doing business can retard real growth and internal innovation. Size of the company is an advantage from a personal benefits standpoint also interfere with capacity to employ new thinking.

Pros

Ability to offer end to end capabilities to clients, huge amount of resources to work with, ability to change roles / build broad experience, being part of a mobile workforce. Opportunity to work closely with a global workforce. Compensation and benefits are very good, the business is strong, business is diversified enough to weather downturns in specific sectors or segments. In the services business, the ability to work remotely, live just about anywhere is a huge plus.

Cons

Difficulty in effectively leveraging all the capabilities available due to vastness, sometimes conflicting performance metrics. Occasionally seems too bureaucratic / requiring too many approvals on deals. The flip side of being a remote / mobile worker is very little sense of Team.

Pros

IBM had a good name years ago, one of the top innovators. If one focuses on learning there is a lot of potential to learn many aspects of the business. There is potential to excel in one's job if you keep your focus.

Cons

Too big so that some managers are apparently either not competent and not trained to bring out the best in themselves and others. It appears innovation is not rewarded enough. Not just technological innovation, but innovation in how to run a business in order to make the truly company indespensible because customers will always expect the best, next great thing.
