The best reasons to work for IBM Systems and Technology are the ability to work with advanced hardware and software, periodic travel to other sites for collaboration, interacting with and learning from very knowledgeable and skilled people, and resources available for development and testing of new products.

Cons

Some of the downsides of working at IBM Systems and Technology include: being laid off at any time regardless of contribution or superior rankings, cancellation of Take A Breaks, inept decision making by all levels of management, and not being more concerned with the rank and file.

Pros

IBM provides flexibilities such as telecommuting, flexible hours, as well as a casual working environment. Employees have unlimited sick days up to a year. It also provides educational opportunities such as internal classes.

Cons

There is a lot of bureaucracy. Many managers believe that people who talk the most during meetings are people who know. Many managers are not technical people themselves. That creates unnecessary layers of inefficiency. Employees also have to use up their annual vacation. If you don't use it, you lose it. Salaries are relatively lower compared to other peer companies. ESPP only offers 5% discount when employees purchase IBM stocks.

Pros

A lot of technical opportunities. You can do software development for storage systems, servers, database, mobile devices, and etc. Not too many companies can offer this kind of variety. You can work with many talented engineers and learn from them. Big and exciting projects that you won't see in small companies.

Cons

NO work life balance. Poor senior management and unrealistic scheduling. Too many layers of senior management. I could never keep track of which VP is in charge of which VP since there are just too many VPs.
