Cons

- DevOps engineer can be either a blessing or a curse pending on what location of the organization you end up on and what your function scale is on what you are hired on. - Engineers who do more work sometimes get lesser paid then engineers that do lesser work. - Management only seems to look at the one bad thing an engineer does instead of the 100+ good things. This is powerful demotivator often leading to engineers leaving ING prematurely. - ING does not determine salary increases based on performance at least not within NL. Instead ING determines salary increases based on number of years worked. - ING also does not pay any over hours when you reach the level of Proficient meaning that engineers who are forced to overwork also have to try to catch up on this by taking time off during the sprint what on its turn gives even more issues concerning a squads planning. - ING wants to see their engineers move into positions like a bizdevsecops as those people are very valuable. Fun fact is ING is not providing any enticement towards engineers to actually develop towards such a role. - The promotion process within ING is still based on likes. So during calibration sessions engineers still end up on the wrong side even if they made considerable effort in proving over a years period they are ready for moving to the next function level. - If you are unlucky you will repeatedly run into a wall with the IT Security departments. I occasionally have conversations with them and try to help them to improve on their processes. It helps but all this effort is nearly never being rewarded.
