Big fish swallowing up small businesses

Pros

I suppose this is not the worst place to start your career. In consulting, you will learn things while enjoying a decent work/life balance.

Cons

Massive corporate structure that uses many processes that make very little sense. Managers seem distant and detached. Computer/network problems occur at bare minimum once a month, necessitating a call to the help desk in India. For a technology company, this is embarrassing. Insanely little care for secure passwords. The quarterly emails from management always make me laugh by how little they inspire. (But maybe I am alone in not getting rallied up by talk of EBITDA). Maybe these people are good managers, but they sure are not good leaders. In terms of promotions, it seems like once you're in, you're unlikely to get promoted. They'd rather bring in outside talent and simply give you more responsibility with the same pay.

Pros

Lots of nice people to work with, very experienced. Good SOP's and systems and relatively easy to find the help you need. Most line managers are pretty competent and keen to help support you and take time to do that. Training and on-the-job experience is very good - ideal place to 'learn your trade'.

Cons

Sometimes long working hours. Pay is not great at all and payrises for promotions pretty laughable. No real attempts made to retain staff or compete on salary which is a shame as employees don't feel so wanted.

Pros

Nice office Parking Starbucks Quarterly free lunches, there would be events that were done to 'build morale' within the office

Cons

Lots of back biting and two faced colleagues who were just just out for themselves to impress the manager. It got so bad to the point employees used to make things up about another colleague. Management were not trust worthy, you would ask to keep things confidential however this would never stay between you and the manager and other colleagues of yours would get to know your business. They tell you that there are other opportunities within Quintiles but when the time comes they don't help you at all, in fact block you. HR always side with management even if you have a strong case. Seems almost impossible to get support
