Pros

The team I'm working with is amazing. Everyone respects each other and is very helpful. The site manager is also very approachable. Steep learning curve and a very hands-on job. Learning is never ending in this field. Great allowance, bonus and AWS. Benefits and compensations are amazing and competitive. The company always emphasises its core values and they implement it. The corporate management is very approachable towards field engineers.

Cons

OT and standby duties, especially when job demand is high (Installation, etc.)

Fascinating Technology

Pros

The technology is fascinating. There is the opportunity to work with outstanding engineers in many different disciplines. The work environment is fast-paced, but not overly harsh. Lots of opportunities for career growth.

Cons

Engineering design activities are not always well planned or coordinated. Every engineer has multiple priorities, and most engineering projects only have 1 engineer per discipline. Faster progress could be made by loading multiple engineers on the same project until it is done, then moving to the next one.

Summer Engineering Intern

Pros

-It's a big company with a lot of resources -Hours seemed fairly flexible throughout my group and others around me

Cons

-Lots of bureaucracy and red tape for everything that needs to be done (but typical for big companies) -Political competition was prevalent, and even a part of my job as an intern. -Seemed like there were some jobs that were protected in my group...given how slow it moved, it's easy for people to hide who don't pull their weight. -HR was nice enough to have me interview with other groups for full-time positions, but the hiring managers I dealt with were very political and did not take me seriously as an intern. Believe me: as a summer intern fresh from school, this stuff stays with me and gives me an impression of the company. It felt as if those managers did not value my time and energy to prepare to meet them. -To rub it in worse: after my summer internship ended, I attended a Lam career fair a few weeks later, where they invited the public to their HQ. It was horribly inefficient (waited for 2-3 hours in line) and they told people to "apply online" afterward, basically wasting the time and energy of the hundreds and hundreds of people who went. Keep in mind this was when the economy wasn't great (2010). I'm sure Lam has changed since but that REALLY rubbed me the wrong way, and it was a big disaster by them.
