Pros

Great compensation when they are doing well.

Cons

Zero cooperation. Management believes it is the greatest. Training is ...here is your desk and a pencil, you'll figure out the rest. Politics is the only thing. Don't listen to their BS, it is run just like every other semiconductor equipment company: frantic pace, management changes bimonthly, the sky is falling (every other week). Luckily the engineers are working and trying to ignore the BS but unfortunately they are disorganized also: structure and procedure might be somewhere but not in the workplace. Philosopy seems to be to have three times as many engineers to make up for the chaos and cut back on everything else. Like every other semiconductor equipment company the end is near.

Pros

there are a lot of very intelligent and capable engineers at Lam that make for a lot of exciting opportunities. If you work well in a group of Type A personalities, this is the palce for you to be. I think a strong performance record is required and you have to promote yourself.

Cons

Too much discussion and seemingly random changes in priority. I think it depends on your manager and customer. Plus, the industry is only going to shrink, margins are going to get tighter. That means fewer opportunities and less room for innovation.

Pros

Lam pays very well. Salary and profit sharing (when they are profitable) are very competitive.

Cons

Layoffs. Paycuts. Mandatory time-off. Working in fear. Questionable decision making from upper and senior management. Some of the managers at Lam are very incompetent and uninspiring that don't seem to care since they are just there for the paycheck and wont leave as they probably wouldnt be hired anywhere else in the valley. Very surprised by the lack of professionalism and respect demonstrated to co-workers. "F" bombs and questionable language are very common in meetings. Still very much a "good ole boy" network. If you are not part of that network then expect to be in for a rude awakening.
