Pros

Good local managers and even better technical team leaders ( in Romania ). Some very good networking engineers ( their potential and expertise is unfortunately not used accordingly ) - nice office space - state of the art networking lab - free coffee

Cons

Lenovo System-X and Networking department is just a headless beast still moving out of inertia without any perspectives and without any clear and realistic future plan. In the Networking department they kept all the top managers from IBM and their inefficient and highly bureaucratic methods of project management leading to no real change. Software quality always comes last. Zero transparency about hiring / lay-offs in the other sites ( US, China, India, Germany ) after the acquisition of the department from IBM Bad HR practices : almost all employee requests/interactions are done via a web portal or email ( just a front end for an external service ) showing how little Lenovo actually really cares for it's [Romanian] employees. The existing Lenovo Romania employees (sales and marketing) made no real effort to integrate the System-X people coming from IBM, they have their own little cosy office corner space completely separated from the rest of the crowd. As I see things ( from a former communist country ) the company has an almost idolatrous propaganda agenda for the company's CEO Yang Yuanqing (YY) ( in induction YY was better and thoroughly presented then the emergency and fire hazard procedures ) I rated Culture & Values to 2 stars because Lenovo says the right things about this but in practice it fails to implement them. In Networking department "We own what we do" and "A company for DOers" are simply words on a wall and nothing more.

First, thanks for your time with us. You make some good points here. We are aware of some of the problems you mention. We are working on addressing them. Lenovo is not the type of company that accepts poor performance. Our CEO gets a lot attention internally because he is very good according to many outside publications.

Over hyped the future for US SystemX employees Number of US developers declining rapidly due to layoffs leading to low morale. Majority of developer jobs moving to China Strong shroud of secrecy regarding layoffs or road maps

Thank you for your input. Lenovo is committed to success in the Server business. We bought the IBM X86 server business several months ago. We did not expect an immediate turnaround, however, we do expect great success in the future. We recognize the challenges as we have been successful in the past and intend to do the same again. Thank you for expressing your concerns. Transition to success is often challenging and takes some time. We all want instant success, but Lenovo is more focused on long term success. We want you to have confidence that we are doing the best for the long term success of the business.

Thanks for your feedback. We are currently in a transition period after acquiring the IBM X86 Server business. Our goal is to grow the business to strong profitability. Acquisitions of this size are not the norm at Lenovo, however, they can be very trans-formative and make us even more successful in the long run.
