Pros

Pays above minimum wage and you can easily move up the ladder or progress in the company.

Cons

Never anyone in management around when you need to speak to them in your department, unsociable hours, overtime is not optional (according to them), long working week - (many days on the trot e.g not your average 5 day a week job. More like 8-10 days on then 2 days off and back to 8-10 days/nights on.) Never got a weekend off in 2 months so don't expect one and the pay slip (apparently) doesn't show your hourly rate, hours worked and what your being paid for on the 1st month, only a figure and other info you already know - pretty much useless, unacceptable and impossible to work out your earnings.

Pros

- working stock is easier than at other supermarkets due to their big box practices - don't have to go over the top with customer service - fairly autonomous in your duties - pay is alright compared to other retail jobs

Cons

- horrendously understaffed at all times, you're expected to do 10 jobs at once whilst managing the tills at peak hours when you literally don't have a minute to get up - my training mentor went on holiday for a fortnight in the same week that I was hired. All in all I had about 20 minutes worth of hands on training - every member of management that I had the misfortune of dealing with was an absolute social muppet who had no regards for employee welfare. - lied to during interview about job role. Repeatedly told them I had no experience in and no desire to handle money, and that I was a stock man. During my time there I was on the tills 99% of the time - lied to about available hours and my contract. On a 20 hour contract I was lucky to get 10 a week. All those taken on at the same time as me had the same and also felt betrayed - reckless hiring practices, I and three others were let go a day before our probation period ended. None of us could get solid answers as to why. They overhired and then let most of us go just before the cut off period allowed. Absolutely disgusted, never been treated so like a company. I wasn't the greatest employee but the other two girls were as good as gold. Both had children and got laid off a month before christmas for seemingly no reason - workload given to the staff is more than double that of other supermarkets I've worked at (ASDA, Tesco and Co-op) - managers were frequently abusive to and racist about (out of earshot) the Eastern European delivery drivers - lied to about available overtime during interview - was fired in front of three people who I've never seen before, out of store managers brought in as "backup" I suppose. Middle aged men wearing sweatervests, standing there with their arms crossed. Between them and my morbidly obese disctrict manager I could barely contain my laughter Quite frankly the worst company I've ever worked for. As a merchandiser with over three years of experience who's worked at every supermarket in the UK and opened/trained the staff of many, I couldn't not recommend this place less. Of the six of us taken on, only one was left after probation. This company will lie to you, take advantage of you and ten leave you with a huge gap in your CV. Stay away. Far away. Robotic and socially awkward company. Destroys any signs of initiative, creativity or fun at the source, with extreme prejudice. Three months there were absolutely miserable. Go work at ASDA or Tesco instead.

Cons

- Managers treat bad their personel due to many pression they receive from their superiors - Everyone is very unhappy with their job - No team spirit - No evaluation methods, they fire people if they don't like your face - No work+life balance - Training is a joke, they put you in a store and forget about you
