Pros

Lockheed provides may opportunities for working overtime. It also has great benefits! The benefits at Lockheed far exceed what many other companies offer. The hours available are very convenient for any worker. They offer 3 different shifts and close the plant for the week of Christmas. Managing your 401k is very simple due to the online, employee only website. An employee may also use this sight to check their paycheck, change their direct deposit, and keep up with their vacation time. Vacation time is earned with every hour that is worked. Therefore, if you work a lot of overtime, then you earn more hours. At this time, I have over 3 weeks of vacation available to me and I have already taken 2 weeks of vacation this year!

Cons

Lockheed tends to promote "friends" of management. They do not regularly promote for hard work and dedication. As an employee that has 21 years of experience in aviation that also holds a bachelor's degree in aviation as well as a master's degree in professional areonautics, it becomes very frustrating that my boss does not even hold a high school diploma! Lockheed in Fort Worth tends to hire people who have little to no experience because they "know" someone. Also, Lockheed in Fort Worth has a union. As a salaried employee, it is frustrating to manage union employees because it is very difficult to enforce a good work ethic.

Pros

Location in the Metroplex makes for easy commute from most of the area. Pay is above-scale. Every other Friday off, 9-hr workdays except working Friday is 8-hr. 1-week off for Christmas/New Year's. Work assignments are somewhat interesting. Most of the people act decent. Some opportunity for career growth.

Cons

Employees that reach a certain age and years of service are subject to being laid off so the company can reduce retirement benefits and healthcare expenses. Work assignments can get boring after awhile because of limited duties and responsibilities.Company is slow to upgrade computers and other equipment, work procedures and methodologies. Hires alot of foreignors who barely can read/speak English. Functional Management is not supportive of project management. Employees can get a good review by their project manager, but the functional management will give a bad review and no raise to the employee. Mandatory 5% of employees do not get raises each year and are put into a pool of potential layoff candidates regardless of actual performance - this is often done to non-management senior employees who are within 10-15 years of normal retirement age.

Pros

The comany has a great name, a great image, and takes care of their employees. Flexible work schedules with compensatory time (trading overtime for vacation) further improves work + life balance. Knowing you are helping to defend this wonderful country is a great added bonus.

Cons

The company is oversized, bloated, and bureaucratic do to the nature of business conducted with the Department of Defense. It takes forever and costs gazillions to make anything happen. Facilities are outdated (desks, cubicles, etc) and cubicle life is not fun. No natural light in the buildings. Sometimes you feel like a tiny cog in a huge complex machine wondering if you actually make a difference.
