Pros

There are good people to work with and lots of opportunities for different types of work. They support furthering your education with tuition reimbursement and even fitness reimbursements for gym memberships up to $250

Cons

Contracting with the government all depends on if the government has funding to support your contract so sometimes a project that you worked hard on is just gone all of a sudden because there is not financial support anymore. It's easy to get lost in the crowd and even though you work hard you may not always get recognized for it.

Pros

Flexible work schedule Very reasonable deadlines Comparable salary to private sector companies Nice people, albeit apathetic work wise Opportunities for lateral movement

Cons

Speaking from the point of view of a software developer, there's no technical ambition at the company. Technology is very antiquated. The workers are just trying to earn a paycheck and do not care much for technical growth nor are they passionate about their work. As with any defense contractor, they are more concerned with the the reports and documents than a quality product.

Pros

Lockheed is stable in an unstsable economy. Because of it's size, we are able to weather problems in an unsettling time. When a program is cancelled, we attempt to shift employees to another project. We'd rather keep employees than lose them. That is partially biased for working for LMSSC in Huntsville, AL, but I assume that all locations would share a similar ethic.

Cons

Lockeed Martin, like many large organizations, has a dual career ladder. The technical side is somewhat short and pointy - not much room for growth there as "there can be only one." The management side has more opportunity, but once you cross into functional leadership, you're taken away from all things technical. There is a 1/2 ladder associated with the techncal side (technical management), but it's also very competitive. Really, it's a stable place to work but you don't expect to stay here for 30 years and get to the top.
