Pros

9/80 work schedule, health benefits. Very nice office spaces with good walking paths for a lunch walk. On site medical where you can get your flu shot or just go if you're not feeling well.

Cons

Training was 'catch as catch can.' Manager seems to have nothing to do but send daily emails to group: what are you doing today...tomorrow...this week. Forwards emails for non-essential nonsense. Very top heavy with managers who manage other managers and so on. Well, the 'real workers' got our layoff notices this week. Don't know how my relatively low salaried job will effect LM's bottom line. I guess the six figure managers will still be eating at the taxpayer-funded troth. Wish the US government could really 'see' what they're paying for - non-essential heavy middle/top management.

Cool Projects Sometimes, But Very Low Pay

Pros

Cool projects if you like doing actual technical work. You have to really do the work though because there are a lot of others who just label themselves as project managers and don't contribute to the technical work.

Cons

No way up the ladder unless you have connections. The pay is much lower than what you can get for the same type of work and required skills at another company unless you have connections. Even then, because there are no bonuses and no stock options for individual contributors, you're better off working at a non-government contracting company. Plus, too much dead wood lying around. Layoffs help remove the dead wood, but sometimes they cut down some fine foliage in the process. Although I've never been laid off, I have seen a lot of good people go while the poorly skilled workers remain via connections.

Pros

The products are cool Org structure conducive to career development

Cons

They shut down our facility and required us to pay back tuition assistance if we left prior to our layoff date to pursue other employment. This was despite the facts that the leadership program requires participants to get a masters and that people were not required to pay back tuition in previous site closures. This affected multiple people and the bills were quite large. Salary is a bit below market

Pros

The employees are all highly intelligent, honorable & hard-working. In addition, the work at the Aeronautics division is fast-paced & extremely interesting.

Cons

Unfortunately, due to the downturn in Dept of Defense funding, layoffs of the more experienced emplyees is a constant threat. It is too bad that shareholder value is more important than keeping highly trained & knowledgeable employees.

Pros

There's various locations around the USA with the possibility to relocate and learn new things. There's a lot of really smart engineers that love their job and it's amazing to learn from their knowledge.

Cons

The management is not too great and have an old school mentality. They are not willing to adapt to change or implement new tools or strategies. There are a lot of processes that could use update. Even the facilities in most locations are run down. With the shrinking military government funding you see a lot of reductions in spending by the company and layoffs.

Pros

Decent pay and great benefits. Pension program was discontinued, but good 401K program. Nice place to work depending on your supervisor. Great gym and activity center.

Cons

Layoffs occur too often and seem part of the business plan for indirect employees.

Pros

Definitely a big company with solid benifits. Solid focus on continuous improvement.

Cons

Layoffs targeting older workers level 4 and up, and little opportunity to grow after workers opportunity to advance.
