Pros

- Great place to grow your skills and there are lots of programs to choose from if you get bored with your current role. - very flexible - tons of job security. - great place to work for women. Both of my tech leads, my product manager, and my manager are all women.

Cons

- Much of the work is*gasp* not remote. So if you need a more flexible life style, you’re out of luck. - legacy software and processes are very common. - working in a class environment is not for everyone. - moral questions. - very program specific. Lm is essentially a collection of small businesses and some are soul crushing.

Pros

Working with like-minded, intelligent team-members; opportunity to move into different roles/specialties (cross-train in other disciplines)

Cons

Pay below industry average. Benefits cut. Pay doesn't keep up with inflation. Most managers are company men - you are always replaceable.

Pros

Benefits...not the pay, just the benefits.

Cons

They will shove the woke agenda down your throat so be prepared... No real guidance on what you're supposed to be doing. What you get hired for has very little with what they task you with. Most of the team I'm on has left in a one year time span. The pay is NOT competitive. Represented/union employees get NO guidance on benefits, pay raises, PTO. You better know who to ask because the managers have no idea. You will get bored if you're a fast thinker. The meetingsvare too many and not relevant. They seem to not have basic things figured out, like who is going to do what? Basic SOP is STILL being written. How is that possible? The public have an over inflated view of how great it is to work at LM.

Pros

The work itself can be rewarding and challenging for engineers. Onboarding right from interview process to relocation is very well executed.

Cons

The matrix organization that is touted as the template is not followed here. There is no parallel hierarchy of program manager vs functional manager, essentially the functional manager is simply 3 managerial levels above your program manager. There are many semi-skilled managers at the lower levels that have poor leadership qualities. They will easily castigate technical excellence and producing quality work with a bullying type attitude. It is a big company, but it can feel like there is nothing beyond the immediate manager, while any recourse requires reporting to HR/Ethics which requires documented paper trail of retaliation, not a luxury available to much of the classified work that's done here. Level 1 and level 2 hires straight out of college have the ability to rotate programs and get out of nasty situations this way, but I would not recommend this company for Level 3-5. You need to know how to play politics and stay in the good books with your work to make your immediate managers look great. Not a quality readily available to introvert nerdy types.

Pros

culture, 4x10 work schedule, winter shutdown

Cons

As with anywhere - a bad manager can ruin your experience with the company
