Large company and easy to get lost and stuck in a position. Too many managers that are trying to do too many jobs.

Good place to work

Pros

Flexible work hours, allows telecommuting, where applicable. Coworkers are great, work is steady most times. Normal benefits for maternity leave, but workplace accommodates nursing moms with a designated space to pump.

Cons

As a part of a functionally matrixed org, it means you may have several managers to report to and a fairly complex mandatory 360 review cycle that rarely equates to what you get for your yearly raises.

Pros

Some of the best work experience you will ever receive, especially if your interested in working for a large company, if you get the right manager. It never hurts to learn a process put in place by a large internatiomally known company.

Cons

Many times, because of the sheer size of the company, employees can get lost in the system and not receive the one on one attention a newer employee might need. A large portion of middle management is so worried about themselves, that they forget they are supposed to be leading a team not setting up their own next job.

Pros

Well-known aircraft company with multiple areas of expertise. Good possibilities for promotion and relocation. Friendly, knowledgeable co-workers and managers. Great pay and benefits.

Cons

Not too many opportunities for advancement without having to relocate to another state. Limited time government contract(s). Program Management Office in Maryland not understanding the customers in supporting states like Oklahoma, Georgia, and Utah. Relies on too many one-year temporary employees.

Pros

Has some good management, employees are nice if they are not over stressed, pay is a little better than most other places with the same type jobs.

Cons

Allowing of bad managers to stay too long, very negative impact on employees, Benefits are getting worse over time and requiring more out-of-pocket, having a family is not the model that these benefits are for. Single people will find Lockheed Martin the company of the future, married people, good luck.

Pros

Big company, lots of job openings and easy to move around to other programs or locations if your manager is well connected (which mine was). For the most part, I always enjoyed the work I was doing, and my specific manager was great for career planning. Even though I'm not part of the company anymore, he is still my mentor and we talk regularly. Good 401k benefits, not sure that's still true for brand new employees.

Cons

I worked in a team environment, with Lockheed as the prime and Boeing and others as subs. Lockheed's compensation was average for the industry, but lower than its partners. It can be easy to get lost in a big corporation, and can be very frustrating when you don't get to share in the success of the company (no annual bonus based on company performance). They're very stingy when it comes to happy hours, christmas parties, general employee social events, but that's also not necessarily how you judge a good company.
