Pros

Steady paycheck, tiny amount of sick time, paltry vacation, rigidity from HR and duplicitous management. Confusing infrastructure, cumbersome to navigate IT systems, nagging training experiences.

Cons

Flat out lies from recruiters. Corporate hypocrisy ("Protect personal and company information; take your time and do it right." right beside "You have to provide all this excess, unnecessary information to non-LM entities; do corporate training on your own time.")

Typical Large Government Contractor

Pros

Many locations to choose from and many jobs available. Salary and benefits are reasonable, but usually on the low side of the industry average.

Cons

Most jobs are concentrated in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area. (I suppose that's not bad if you like that area...) As a large government contractor, bureaucracy is rife and terrible. Raises (beyond the laughable "merit increase") are rare, and promotions even more so. Job security often tied to a contract. Training funds seem to be a myth. Expect to pay for any training out of your own pocket.

Pros

Very interesting technical work that you won't find in many other types of companies. Because of the size and numerous geographical locations, there are opportunities to move around. Excellent ethics training program.

Cons

A person can get stale technically if they stay on a program too long, and some programs go for decades.

Pros

There was a good work/life balance for me in my position. I had to opportunity to engage with some very interesting and smart people in my time there and I was able to travel some. I was able to work from home a lot and work around my busy life schedule when needed. Lots of flexibility in the position to have a life and do well at work. The benefits are good even if they are not as good as they were when I first started. They are still good compared to other companies. I had a lot of interesting and challenging work in my days to keep me satisfied for many years.

Cons

There was a lot of myopic mindset above me. My direct team was great, but the further north in the org chart I looked, the more short sighted and bottom line focused the management became. There was no top line mindset of growing from what I saw in their words and actions. It was always cut, cut cut and that got old after a while on the mindset of employees and created a downtrodden workforce around me. It was depressing many days in the office. I had 1 training class in the last 2 years so that was hard to stay motivated after having a lot of training opportunities up to that point early in my career. What it was when I started was great, and what I left was average at best as an organization.

Pros

Great company with excellent benefits and global opportunities. Training is provided, as well as educational benefits. Excellent company to either start or continue a career.

Cons

Large company with many divisions. Common strategies and goals are hard to synchronize across division lines. A lot of emphasis on leadership and ethics training, but one-on-one mentorship is not always available, especially for new managers.

Pros

great company with potential to climb. great health and personal benefits.

Cons

in comparison to some companies, LM lacks training for their employees, especially new hires. LM tends to also be top heavy with many senior level managers and not enough new, integrated talent.

Pros

Easy job with a lot of overtime and good money.

Cons

No one wants to make improvements. Very little work to do and no management support for anything. All work is job specific, no cross training.

Pros

Good, well-established government contractor, with plenty of opportunity for growth and there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer. On-site gyms allow you to save time and money.

Cons

There are times that you will not receive a lot of training, but they are willing to work with you to get you where you need to be
