Pros

Very good management; important, challenging, high-tech work; good opportunities for vertical and lateral moves and transfers to other locations and divisions; tuition reimbursement, training and education support; good salary ranges and benefits; high ethics

Cons

Contract awards are based on the ups and downs of the federal defense budget and Congressional decisions.

Sinking ship

Pros

I worked here for a little over five years. I started with them right out of college. While I learned a lot in these years, lately they are slowing down in business and employee morale is low. - Lots of training classes available - Paid for my education (although I do not believe they do this anymore) - Lots of work locations - Some telecommuting options

Cons

By the time I recently left, it was: - A horrible dog-eat-dog type of environment - Several layers of managers and people who "think" they're managers that actual managers are afraid to put back in their place - Budget pressures felt companywide which caused: - extremely low morale - months of reorganization/ layoff warnings, again - managers to tell employees there are no more resources for training or additional opportunities - no more than 2% a year raises

Pros

Reasonably well run company. Variety of work. Great colleagues. Interesting projects. Lots of training and educational support. Pay and benefits better than industry standards.

Cons

Still kind of an old boy's network. Uneven advancement. Placement of employees exposed by project contractions is poor. Highly expert specialists are considered a burden to programs.

Pros

Tons of leadership training, ability to transfer within the company, solid and clear path to promotion, especially at junior levels. Met some great managers and engineers. Strongly motivate leaders to mentor others and it is a team atmosphere, not competitive within. Definitely recommend, especially to young career folks or those who like the structure and stability of a large company. Plus the stock has been killing it lately in the market.

Cons

Federal budgets are declining and therefore LM budgets too - they have been tightening belt and doing layoffs. Not a fast pace of change. Depends on what work you do and what you're interested in, but I never really liked the whole "blowing stuff up" part of the company.

Pros

Programs command the political power within the division. Once attached to a program, employees is likely to be a discouraged from exploring other options within ones skill set. A generalist will likely find this good. Some job stability results form this arrangement. Some support for advanced education off campus.

Cons

A specialist wanting to practice a specific skill set like digital communications or guidance and control will find it difficult to move from program to program. Job security is lost with mobility. work environment is the corporate cube village with no windows. limited access to good food resources. Plant/campus layout is dis organized. One may have to walk across the campus many times to get needed resources or attend meetings. Engineers must divert time from project goals to fix organizational failures in facilities' maintenance and materials procurement. Shops have limited access due to union labor rules. engineers unions exist in some divisions. Training for ethics and team values is condescending and juvenile.

Pros

Training budget is vast, do not hesitate to put you in a training course. Never had an issue getting approved for a formal training.

Cons

Old boy network, not ethnically diverse or welcoming, conservative, set in ways, over work their people, pay under market value.
