Pros

Great number of opportunities, especially in the DC metro area, with room for advancement and growth; in my experience, managers tend to stress a positive work-life balance and make accommodations to employees (i.e., flexible hours, telecommuting)

Cons

Training budgets have been slashed; salaries have been mostly flat for the past few years

Pros

Availability of self service job training, process library resources and mentoring opportunities are widely available if you actively pursue them.

Cons

Big Lockheed moves slowly in some areas (i.e. recruiting, functional support, business development) after eliminating many indirect positions.

Pros

Do it yourself on-line training, better benefits compared to small companies.

Cons

Lack of communication, dedicated employees are not valued, professional development is not the same at all offices, policies which make it difficult to complete tasks and products, managers who are unaware of important policies and unwilling to learn.

Pros

Lockheed is the largest defense contractor in the world, the company provides all benefits. Training opportunities can be open to employees who are wiling to pay back the time with the firm.

Cons

Since its so large it takes a community to get things done. The company appears to have many divisions with a convoluted structure of management which sometimes can be daunting

Pros

Good work and life balance. Multiple locations in DC metro area. Flexible working hours, including telecommuting. Pension, though no longer available to new hires.

Cons

No paid overtime in most cases. Less emphasis on internal software development. Limited budgets for career development, training courses. Career growth in technical domain limited, very few level 5 and above positions. Benefit costs are high. Salaries not as competitive.

Pros

Some of the people are phenomenal - great skill sets and great personalities. Pay is commensurate with others in the same industry.

Cons

They put people in management positions with absolutely no training or background and when something goes wrong, very quick to pass the blame on (i.e., managers can do no wrong)

Pros

Training opportunities are great depending on your management. Stability - depending on which department you're in. Diverse opportunities for expanding or keeping your job.

Cons

You are replaceable, simply an asset to get the work done, so don't expect to be treated as a human with feeling and emotion. Behave as a machine to get the work done and you'll be okay if you do it well. Management and Union cannot get along - both act like little children arguing in a playground.
