Pros

Free Parking Allowed a 15 minute comfort break (monitored) Subsidised canteen Decent shifts 8-4, 10-6 Close to Salford quays amenities (you won’t be able to afford to use them)

Cons

Absolutely awful environment to work in Treated like a resource not a human being Berated if you spent more than 3 minutes on a call regardless of the complexity of the issue you are dealing with. Terrible measly salary Micro managed as if you are a child Head of HRSS unapproachable looks down their nose at the ‘staff’ Advertise jobs at one salary externally yet won’t pay that salary if an internal applicant gets the role!!

Pros

- Pay is good - Location is good

Cons

- Management team in Food drive a toxic blame culture - Personnel change is excessive, making it hard for decisions to be made & causing significant delays - Governance is ignored (especially by senior leaders) - Work hours are excessive with a culture of promoting those who work 7 days a week / 12 hours a day

Pros

I really, really enjoy working for M&S. As a company, they are pretty well-loved in the UK, yet have had some troubles in recent years - hence the transformation plan. So this is a great opportunity to say that I was a part of transforming M&S into an engineering-led culture and modernising the tech stack. The opportunity in software engineering is great in terms of being able to define my own role, there are plenty of opportunities to progress my skills whilst upgrading M&S in an engineering perspective, especially with the mooted move to a modern tech stack. There is really good support from senior engineers though we need a few more, for sure. There is opportunity galore at M&S in engineering and it is quite exciting to see how we are progressing - but lots of opportunity to improve things. Also good culture - good people.

Cons

Well it is a large corporation so things don't move as quick as in a start-up - though it isn't stuffy like other large corporations.
